We would like to follow up on our recent blog about the awesomeness that is Skinny Cubs and how every budding creative should find themselves at this event to help kick start their careers in the industry. The entries have been judged and a winner was called, congratulations Helen and Thirza! It was great to see it had grown bigger than last year. Larger venue, more female creatives, more beer plus the addition of inspiring guest speakers to give their insights and advice into the big scary world of (trying to get a job in) advertising.
On a personal note the best part of the evening for us was catching up with great people who we have had the pleasure of meeting / working with over the last couple of years. One of whom is not only the founder of Skinny Cubs but also the ECD that gave us our first job and also one of the coolest dudes we have met in the industry, Steven Bennett-Day.

It was a bit of a surprise to have him open the event with a giant picture of AKcreates from last years competition but a warm, fuzzy one none-the-less. It was great to hear that ex-colleagues and people we look up to and respect are proud to see us doing well and are impressed by how far we have gone.. as far as an agency in China for example.
One of the main points that jumped out of the evening for us in terms of great advice, not just for individuals/teams starting out in advertising but to all Creatives is to BE creative. Everyday, in everything you do. Do not just think about it, mention it, write it in your notebook (which you should have 'at least 7 on the go' apparently!) to pull out on the next pitch.. actually do it. If you believe in it, make it happen. A wise man once said, "Be the change you want to see in this world" and we have always tried to remember that philosophy in everything we do. We both got into this industry to see what we could DO.. not what we could, ideally, maybe, potentially do, one day, maybe.
